The devil likes the word “Big”
I remember at School being told by a teacher that the mission field or Christian work could not be my calling as I ‘had done so well in school” I was destined to be something bigger like a professor or something.
I was later offered free any University in South Africa and even a scholarship to Oxford in England and some ‘Christians’ told me I was mad not to take up these offers as the mission field or Evangelism was too small for me.
Later in the mission field I met a principal of a large South African University who told me I was stupid to be in Christian work as an Evangelist as my achievements at school were better than any person in their History who had ever applied to them and I would be far better off becoming a Doctor somewhere.
The head of a very large missionary organization with loads of money and infrastructure and missionaries in over 100 countries told me I was too big to be in the small mission organization I was in.
I personally fully believe that I do not deserve the organization I am in at all and they are very merciful to me as I can be bad and stupid at times.
However I knew that the head of this large organization had in earlier years really struggled to be submissive to anyone over him. He was the head of hundred’s but struggled ever to be under authority himself. I thought to myself … I prayed ” God please make me not a great preacher, but a great servant” and I know although this is still my prayer I have failed many times at this heart’s cry.
I would like to tell you though that it was at a little Bible College that God saved me ( not Oxford)
It was in this little mission that God allowed me to see drunkards radically saved who still stand today.
It was in this little mission that I could learn so many things that I don’t deserve to know of true wisdom in following Jesus Christ.
Yes I never became a rocket scientist, but I happen to know that Jesus is the personification of wisdom and even though a mechanic can fix my car temporarily ( I appreciate this) Jesus fixed my heart.
I have never gotten over being saved and I have nothing against people having loads of degrees, but these on their own are nothing to the riches in Christ and the joy of one soul being saved. God uses Doctors and God uses fishermen.
Little is much if God is in it
In the harvest field now ripened
There’s a work for all to do;
Hark! the voice of God is calling,
To the harvest calling you.
Refrain:
Little is much when God is in it!
Labor not for wealth or fame;
There’s a crown, and you can win it,
If you go in Jesus’ name.
In the mad rush of the broad way,
In the hurry and the strife,
Tell of Jesus’ love and mercy,
Give to them the Word of Life.
Does the place you’re called to labor
Seem so small and little known?
It is great if God is in it,
And He’ll not forget His own.
Are you laid aside from service,
Body worn from toil and care?
You can still be in the battle,
In the sacred place of prayer.
When the conflict here is ended
And our race on earth is run,
He will say, if we are faithful,
“Welcome home, My child—well done!”
1 Cor 1 : 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe
Repeat : The wisdom of the world can fix your car, but cannot fix your heart.
Zech 4 : 10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.
1 Cor 1 : 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
