To Magister John Agricola in Eisleben - Martin Luther
TO MAGISTER JOHN AGRICOLA IN EISLEBEN
Agricola abused Luther’s permission to lecture by disseminating his Antinomian errors; Luther withdrew the permission.
January 6, 1538.
My greeting! I announced to the school rector, my Agricola, that you should discontinue the theological lectures which, at your request, I permitted you to deliver, and that henceforth you should entirely renounce theology. I communicate this decision to yourself in the present letter, so that you may know that in future you must receive permission from the University to hold such lectures. What you may
say against us behind our backs I neither can nor will prevent, but be upon your guard. Pray and humble yourself beneath the mighty hand of God.
MARTIN LUTHER . (Schutze.)
