A W Tozer had grown up in a farming community in Pennsylvania in the La Jose district. He came to the Lord as a teenager at Akron, Ohio after listening to a street preacher. Five years later, with no theological training, he was offered a pastorate. That was the start of a ministry that would span 44 years connected with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, pastoring 33 churches. Later from 1928 – 1959, he was the pastor of the Southern Alliance Church in Chicago. He ended his ministry as pastor of the Avenue Road Church in Toronto, Canada.
