Introduction

These readings were selected from my utmost for his highest, 1927.
Publication history
Compiled and published as a book in 1936.
Oswald and biddy chambers both had great hearts for missions. This can be seen in their life together and in oswalds emphasis at the bible training college1 in london, 191115. Oswald firmly believed that a missionary must be called by godbut he saw it first as a call to be and second as a call to do.
Mrs. Chambers arranged and published these selections from my utmost as a topical collection on the call of god. Her reasoning is explained in the foreword.
Throughout her years of publishing her husbands spoken words, mrs. Chambers was constantly making the material available in different formats to make it more accessible to people with a variety of interests.

Foreword to the first edition (1936)
Called of god is selected from my utmost for his highest, by Oswald chambers, and is made up of those portions which bear very largely upon the missionary call. There are many who desire to have them in this separate form, both for personal use, and use in study circles when that theme is being considered. The whole subject is dealt with in fuller form in so send i you. Those in charge of young peoples classes will be glad to have these vital messages in this form for circulation among the members in preparation for corporate study.
