As the door to the Congo was closed, they turned to South America to minister in Suriname, one of the smallest countries in the northeast coast of South America. They at first encountered opposition to their ministry but it was through the means of their medical help that doors were gradually opened for ministry. They ministered in several villages over the years other missionaries also coming to work under them. Darrel also spoke at many churches and mission conferences as well as Bob Jones University.
