“Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are His delight.” –Proverbs 12:22 

The reason why we should be truthful is because God is truthful; truthfulness is a part of His character and therefore we are called to follow His example. In Zechariah 8:19, the LORD told Israel to “love truth,” and love rejoices in the truth (1 Corinthians 13:6). “Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being,” –Psalm 51:6a . “The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.” –Proverbs 12:19 . Jesus said that He was the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). He that accepts the testimony about Christ “has certified that God is truthful.” –John 3:33b 

“Sanctify them through Thy truth: Thy word is truth.” –John 17:17 . We must be careful not to speak the truth lovelessly, “but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him Who is the head, even Christ,” –Ephesians 4:15 . “O LORD, who may abide in Your tent? Who may dwell on Your holy hill? He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, And speaks truth in his heart.” –Psalm 15:1-2
