Eph 5:19Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
The first song in the bible was composed between the tenth and eighth centuries BCE. It was a song of deliverance after the Red Sea crossing. The first musical instruments in Genesis 4 21 are when Jubal is said to be the father (or the first one to do something like that) of those who play stringed instruments. The songs of Moses (to be sung in heaven) and Solomon are famous, as well as the many Psalms of David, Asaph, etc. Some chapters in the minor prophets are prayers while doubling as songs, such as the last chapter of Habakkuk. There are many great hymns by Charles Wesley, William Williams, William Cowper, Fanney Crosby, and much more. Many other language hymns have become famous for their English translations. Such as the German A mighty Fortress is our God by Martin Luther.
