I Always Dreamt
I I always dreamed what I should be
From childhood ‘til to-day.
Somehow I mapped a certain path
Career, to mark my way.
But suddenly the Master came
And said, “Child, Follow me.
The work that I planned long ago
I do assign to thee.”
So different from the dreams that I
Had dreamt so long ago,
And thus the plan God had for me
Descended like a blow.
Dear God, acclaimed, within this world
My child should surely be!
It cannot be that Thou would call
Him for a missionary.
How sad to shut the Master
From plans and dreams that we,
Without Him, set in motion
Upon their destiny!
