Testemony:
“I Jake Gardner was saved in the Spring of 2004, I was sixteen years old. For three years leading up to that point I desired to follow the Lord, and be free from my sin, but faith cometh by hearing (Rom. 10:17). Though I had been in church consistently for years prior to my salvation, I had not heard the whole truth of the gospel. But, in mercy, God led me when I was fifteen to, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” by Jonathan Edwards, as well as some excerpts of powerful sermons, by men of God. This was instrumental to showing me the depths of my sin, and God’s righteousness.
Finally, after about a year of breaking, God was pleased to reveal his son in me (Gal. 1:15,16). After returning home from church one day, I went straight up to my room, and standing before my closet, remembered how that Jesus said something about going into your closet to pray (I had very little knowledge of the scriptures)… So, I proceeded to take everything out of my closet, and replaced it with a blanket on the ground and a lamp. For the first time I believed that if I sought the Lord, He would meet with me. And He did. Truly, all things were new! I hungered and thirsted after righteousness. I had an insatiable love for the Bible. I didn’t even think about sinning! This continued night and day for three days, and on the fourth I preached for the first time, by his grace.
I look back now, year after year, and am always amazed at how God truly has made me a new creature in Christ, and how the Spirit of the Lord is changing me from glory to glory into His image. I believe Paul said it best in Galatians, “For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (2:20). My life’s prayer now is that God would consume me with a white-hot fervency for His glory, His Son, His word, the churches and the lost. I long to say with David, “For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up…” (Psalm 69:9).”
