Mixing diesel and gasoline fuels
Written by THEUNIS, JOHANNES CLOETE tjcloete@absamail.co.za
Remote it maybe but it can happen accidentally: pumping in diesel fuel to a gasoline powered engine, or vice-versa. If it happens we should pump out all of the mixed fuels and disposed it; it was no good to use it anymore. Hopefully you find it before clicking the start button otherwise the mixed fuels will choke and ruin the engine. This relates to our spiritual lives, too. We were designed to be fueled by Holy Spirit so we would live according to God’s will. But, when we choose to give in to temptation or our fleshly desires, we are mixing evil in with our good fuel. It causes us to choke and very quickly quit running toward Jesus. This is because the good and evil conflict with each other; they were not meant to be combined as fuel – a person runs off of one or the other. (And if someone is running off of evil, seeking God in repentance and trusting in Jesus to be their savior will cause them to be transformed to run off of good instead!) When we find ourselves with mixed fuel in our system, we must ask God to cleanse us. He empties us completely so that we come to the end of ourselves and then re-fills us with Holy Spirit. Just like pumping the buses out to refuel them, this process should not be taken for granted. God is glad to cleanse us so we can run, but He would rather we keep clean fuel all the time so He doesn’t have to cleanse. We won’t get as far on our trip if we keep breaking down with mixed fuel, having to have our tanks pumped and refilled frequently. Instead, we should stay fueled with and only with Holy Spirit. Mixing good and evil fuel for our lives causes us to choke until we can be cleaned out and only filled with the Holy Spirit. *Father God, please forgive us for trying to mix evil fuel into our tanks where only Holy Spirit should be. Teach us how to recognize when we’re about to refuel with the wrong kind of fuel and draw us away. Instead, let us continually be filled with Holy Spirit, that we may run efficiently the race you have marked out for us. In Jesus’ name, amen! |
