My Father
When I was just a baby
Of course I couldn’t read
When I was just a baby
Of course I couldn’t read
The alphabet was Greek to me
A thing I did not need
And yet there was a letter
Before my very eyes
That spoke another language
And tried to make me wise
That letter was my father
His life- the letters small
And I the silent reader
Who tried to read them all
Thank God for such a message
As you have shown to me
A letter sent from heaven
A ‘living testimony’
It led me to my Saviour
It guided on the way
It pointed me to heaven
It was a strength and stay
Keep on, dear letter growing
There’s more I need to know
God keep, protect and bless you
In this dark world below
