SACRIFICE - Louis Gervais

A SACRIFICE

Hello and greetings in the Name of our Atoning Sacrifice, Jesus Christ!

As I read through Hebrews this week I was constantly reminded of how Christ Jesus was the sacrifice that bled and was offered for my sins.  By this He reconciled us to God, drinking in the Father’s wrath on sin which we deserved (an act known as propitiation).

“And He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” –1 John 2:2 KJV (NIV: “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins,”).  “and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.” –Hebrews 9:12 NAS.

“By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” –Hebrews 10:10 NAS (NIV: “have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”)  “And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through His own blood.” –Hebrews 13:12 NIV (KJV: “that He might sanctify the people with His own blood,”).  “For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.” –Hebrews 10:14 NAS (NIV: “by one sacrifice,”).  “but now once in the end of the world hath He appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.” –Hebrews 9:26b KJV.  Quite deep, isn’t it?

Atonement is a synonym for reconciliation.  “And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by Whom we have now received the atonement.” –Romans 5:11 KJV.  “This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” –John 4:10 NIV (KJV: “His Son to be the propitiation for our sins,”).  “God presented Him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in His blood.” –Romans 3:25a NIV.  Hallelujah!!!
