THE TEN COMMANDMENTS SHOW US OUR SIN - Chapel Chat

God rightly described mankind just before the flood. Genesis 6:5 “Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Mankind had rejected God as their leader and King. It is still true today as mankind seeks to do its own will instead of the will of God. The result is: we are all guilty before a righteous God.
Saul, later Paul, describes how he once died before God because of covetousness.  Romans 7:7-9, “For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, You shall not covet. But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. — I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, (He understood it) sin revived and I died.”
Paul was a sinner, separated and dead before God, but didn’t understand it until he saw the particular sin of covetousness in his life.
The law was not designed to bring life. The purpose of the commandments are to show that we are all dead in sin and need to receive forgiveness and life through faith in Christ. Galatians 3:19-22. The rich, young ruler considered himself to have kept the law until faced with covetousness. Convicted, he walked away sorrowful instead of following Christ. Mark 10:19-22. What sin is keeping you from eternal life? Choose total forgiveness today and follow Christ.
