The Wages of Sin - Lee Brainard
The most common delusion indulged by man is the idea that he can sin and get away with it. He encourages himself with fairy tales which place a happy ending on his path of rebellion against the revealed will of God. “God is a nice guy and won’t cast me into hell.” “I am a good person. My good outweighs my bad.” “I was baptized.” “I go to XYZ church.” “I had a born-again experience.”
Such notions are religious whitewash. They enable man to paint over his sin addiction so he can pretend that he won’t die from it. But pretending doesn’t change reality. Not in make-believe. Not in medicine. Not in religion. God has given us his mind on the matter. “The wages of sin is death” (Rom. 6:23). There are no exceptions. If we choose the broad road of sin, we choose destruction. The law of sin and death cannot be cheated. “Be not deceived. God is not mocked. Whatsoever a man sows, that shall he reap. He that sows to the flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption. He that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting” (Gal. 6:7-8).
If you don’t want to receive the wages of sin — eternal death — you must reject the broad road of sin and choose the narrow path that leads to life, the path of Christ. This path starts with the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Spirit (Tit. 3:5).
