Much information on the Puritan Preacher, Thomas Brooks’ early personal life is not easy to find. We do know however that he was preaching at St Thomas Apostle’s church in London as well as being the chaplain to the Parliamentary fleet under Ravensburgh and later under Ravensburgh’s son. He was also chosen to preach at the House of Commons in November 1648 as well as October 1650. We therefore know that he must have been a powerful preacher in the pulpit. His written work can still be accessed in our day. Brooks not only had his sermons printed out, but he also had many tracts written. Some of his sermons in written text include Warnings Against temptation’, ‘Satan’s Devices’ and other choice gems.
