Foreword
Writing in the war years24 (1917) Oswald chambers said, through this war there will emerge new re- statements of god and of Christ. To me there emerge two or three grand facts: first, fathomless redemption as the basis of human life; absolute god-like forgiveness of sin; with a liberty to reject that basis on the part of man. Second, that gods name is Jesus christ; not that he is a revelation from god, but that he is god. That means that god became the weak- est thing in his creation a babe. Third, that he can introduce into any man the heredity of the son of god by new birth, in which his nature becomes operative in human nature, along with a series of educational developments. These articles on redemption contribute to that very end. Everything that has been touched by sin and the devil has been redeemed; we are to live in the world immovably banked on that faith. What sure ground for our feet we have in that glorious truth as we stand for jesus christ, witnesses unto him. But the in-working of redemp- tion in personal life is grandly brought out in these living messages. I quote another sentence, immediately i accept the cross of christ as the revelation of redemption i am not, i must not be, the same man; i must be another man, and i must take up my cross for my lord. So we see redemption working inwardly, with our reactions to it, and with the resultant issues regarding sin and righteousness and judgement. The book is more than worth its weight in gold.
