After Finney had studied law, he entered the law firm of Benjamin Wright at Adams, New York. It was the Mosaic instruction forming part of his studies that drew Finney to study the Bible. He was radically saved in 1821 and went into fulltime service as an evangelist, ordained by the Presbyterian Church. His passion as a lawyer was turned into a passion for souls as he pled with people from the pulpit. Revivals broke out in big cities under his ministry. In New York from 1832, there was a most unusual revival until 1834. The Broadway Chapel was built for him as well as a new theological school formed in Ohio in which he was a professor therefore fluctuating between Ohio and New York. Finney later preached across America in large and small churches in what is termed the second awakening. His sermons and writings on revival are greatly prized and continue to bless and challenge.
