God Made the Stars - Lee Brainard

In the creation account in Genesis we read, “And God made the stars also.” This short little phrase tells us how big God really is. We know that there are hundreds of billions of galaxies — perhaps trillions — each having hundreds of billions of stars, most of these stars having their own solar system of planets. Even more amazing is the statement that God has counted all the stars and calls all of them by name (Psalm 147:4). No wonder the next verse exclaims, “Great is our God, and of great power. His understanding is infinite.”

Now the heavens are like a wordless coffee-table book full of beautiful pictures — a book that all men can read and understand. Indeed, who has not gazed in amazement at the star-filled sky? And what does this book tell us? It tells us that God exists and that his power is infinite (Romans 1:20). It declares the glory of God (Psalm 19:1). It tells us that God is an amazing craftsman (Psalm 19:1).

Moreover, if we think about it, it tells us that he cares about us. He didn’t write this book to talk to himself. He wrote it to talk to us. If he has numbered and named all the stars, then you can rest assured that nothing in your life has escaped him. He cares about you. Indeed, God has numbered the hairs on your head (Luke 12:7). Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares about you (1 Peter 5:7).
