Eliza Hewitt Poems

Eliza Hewitt was a schoolteacher for several years and wrote poetry as well as putting her poems to music as hymns. Sadly, she had a spinal disease and was not able to continue teaching. She started studying literature longing to use her talents in service of the Master. She served in the church community despite her weak spine and her delight was to write countless poems for young children. With her interest in and involvement with children’s work, she was appointed president of the Primary Department of the Calvin Presbytery Church. She met us with Fanny Cosby and they became close friends and both were inspired by the other.
