Why Is Christianity Special?

Why Is Christianity Special? - Lee Brainard

Are all religions alike? Comparative religion would tell us that all the major religions, in their essence, exhibit the same moral code and the same message. While this holds partly true if we limit our universe to all religions except Christianity, it completely breaks down if we include the religion of the “old rugged cross” in the mix. Men can only maintain the myth that “all religions are alike” if they empty Christianity of the true glory of the cross.

The cross is more than just a noble example of a good man laying down his life for others. The cross is GOD HIMSELF — for Jesus was God manifest in the flesh — dying for the sin of mankind. It is God himself making and being the atonement for sin. This is unparalleled in the world’s religions. Nothing remotely compares.

The cross is how both the holiness of God and the love of God can be perfectly satisified. God could not indulge his love for man because his holiness would not allow him to overlook man’s sin. But when the perfectly holy one bore the sins of the world — an infinite sacrifice for sin — the difficulty was traversed. Those who believe on Christ as the answer to the sin problem (satisfying God’s holiness) enjoy God’s unrestrained love. Their sins are forgiven and they receive eternal life.
