You Must Be Born Again - Lee Brainard

We read in the Bible, in the third chapter of John, that a man must be born again if he would be saved and inherit eternal life. This experience is not optional. It is absolutely mandatory.

What is this born-again experience? It is not a religious form or ritual. It is new life wrought in a man’s heart through the Word of God and the Spirit of God (John 3:5-8, Titus 3:5, Luke 8:1-15).

How does a man become born again? He must believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. He must believe the gospel (the good news) that Jesus died as the sacrifice for the sins of the world. This is not mere mental assent. God requires heart faith, not head faith. (Rom. 10:10).

And what is the proof that a man is born again? Not feelings. They come and go like the wind. Not the fact that he did some religious form. The majority of folks who have done a form are still seeing the Devil on the sly, if not openly living with him.

Then what is the proof? A new heart and life. As the Bible says, “a tree is known by its fruit” (Matt. 12:33). The fact is, the new birth is a washing of regeneration and a renewing of the Holy Spirit (Tit. 3:5). It makes a man a new person. Old things are passed away, all things are become new. He that is born of God cannot continue in his old ways of sin. (1 John 3:9). Are you born again?
