God’s Ways Are Higher - Lee Brainard
The Bible states that God’s ways are higher than our ways and his thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Is. 55:8-9). What does this mean for us practically? It means that God goes about his work down here differently than we would. We regard worldly wisdom and strength as essential for the success of any spiritual endeavor. God, however, does not hold them in the same high regard.
When God has work to do, he chooses things which appear foolish to confound the wise, things which are weak to confound those who trust in strength, and things that are despised as lowly, insignificant, or “nothing” to bring to nought things that are regarded as “something”(1 Cor. 1:28). He does this so that men would glory in him and not in themselves.
Before God could use Moses he needed to turn the Egyptian prince into a common shepherd. When Israel cowered before Goliath God used a humble shepherd boy armed with a sling to defeat him. And God chose a group of nobodies — several fisherman, a former Zealot, a tax collector, etc. — to be the foundation of the church and bring the gospel to the world. Would we have chosen them?
Has God called you to a work? Don’t be afraid to walk in God’s wisdom. He has not changed. He still wants the glory.
